Woodworm Cricket Bats come back to prominence a couple of years ago when a couple of English cricket stars used them to beat the Australians in the 2005 Ashes series. So happy are the English with their victory that they have idolised that particular brand:

Woodworm cricket bats won the 2005 Ashes!

OK, well maybe not, but they’ll always be associated with the famous Ashes victory and we’re pleased here at Flintoffs Ashes to see that the Woodworm cricket brand is back.
You may recall that Woodworm disappeared off the scene a couple of years ago which led to both Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen switching to adidas cricket bats. Well those lovely chaps at Sports HQ have now purchased the Woodworm brand.

Anyway, I am a big fan of their bats. I find them very good to use (perhaps because I have knocked by first century with the Woodworm!

Woodworm iBat Cricket Bats

This is woodworm’s entry level bats. The Woodworm iBat “Flame” is the most basic entry level bat. It is made from Kashmir willow. Kashmir willow does not have the same quality as the English willow and hence why this is the entry level bat. As you can see from later posts, the higher priced Woodworm bats use quality English willow.

The good thing about the Woodworm iBat is that it comes with a clear anti-scuff sheet which means you will not have to oil the bat. EVER.

The higher models in this range are not made from Kashmir willow – but English willow. The alpha, beta, gamma and delta models are made for your versatile players who like to occupy the crease. The Woodworm iBat comes with a bubble grip that reduces the chance of the bat slipping from your hands due to sweat. The bubble grip is designed to let air flow through more as you swing and hence drying the sweat. The grip is made with cane so that there is maximum flex when you are batting giving you the type of assistance golfers get when they swing the golf club.

Woodworm Satellite Cricket Bats

Like BMWs, the Woodworm Satellite has a whole range of models to choose from – from the beginners and juniors to your serious seasoned veterans. The flagship model is the Woodworm Gold Satellite Cricket Bat, which is aimed at your top class batsmen (or wannabes top class batsmen!).
As the range topping model, the Woodworm Satellite Cricket Bat is made from Grade 2 English willow. It is the favourite weapon of choice of several international players. The sweet spot is located lower down the blade and is very well balanced. This Woodworm cricket bat weighs in the range of 2lb 8oz to 2lb 15oz and is pre knocked in so that it is ready to be used. The other models under this particular brand are the Woodworm Silver Satellite and the Woodworm Bronze Satellite. The only difference between the three is the different quality of willow used. The Silver is made from Grade 3 English Willow and the Bronze is made with Grade 4

Woodworm Hard Drive Cricket Bats

As all clever companies do, there are also a range of Hard Drive cricket bats in this range. The Woodworm Hard Drive is the brand that Kevin Pietersen uses. I particularly like this model best – mainly because it gives me great power without the weight that comes with the big blaster bats. The power comes from the bowed blade and thick edges as opposed to sheer weight. The bat is made from Grade 2 English willow and weighs in the range of 2lb 8oz – 2lb 15oz. The Woodworm Hard Drive also comes pre-knocked which is great because the worst thing about getting a new bat is that you will have to wait a while before you get to use it.

Again the difference between the models within this range is due to the different willow quality used.

Woodworm Mega Bite Cricket Bats

This range of Woodworm bats gained their exposure through Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff. He used the Woodworm Gold Mega Bite Cricket Bat, which has thick edges, thick toe, a bowed blade and has a huge sweet spot. No wonder he was able to hit so many bowlers for six! If you are a big hitter like Freddie you should get the most out of big shots using this bat. It also has a new metallic livery with a gold grip and weighs in the range of 2lb 8oz – 2lb 15oz with Grade 1 English Willow. This Woodworm cricket bat is also pre knocked in so that it is ready to be played.

Again the bronze and silver models use lesser quality English willow.
